Omer Cebeci is a professor of materials science and engineering at Marmara University, and a member of The Turkish Academy of Sciences and Higher Education Quality Board. He has received his BS and MS degrees (1972 and 1974) in chemical engineering from Middle East Technical University (METU), and PhD degree (1977) from Iowa State University (USA). He has research and industrial consulting experience in the fields of characterization of porous solids, cement and concrete technology, ceramic materials, performance and total quality management. He is the author of more than thirty international publications, which have received about fifty citations. He received The Young Scientist Award of TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) in 1989. His earlier appointments include Vice-Dean of Engineering, Chairman of Materials Engineering and Vice-President of Marmara University and senior consultant at Turkish Institute for Industrial Management. Professor Cebeci participated as Quality Council Member in Total Quality Management implementation at Marmara University, Faculty of Engineering (Finalist, EFQM European Quality Award Public Sector Category in 2000). Professor Cebeci was the Vice-President and Member of the Science Board of TUBITAK (2004-2011). His main responsibilities were the development and implementation of the funding programmes and research grants awarded to projects in universities and industry, as well as scholarships to graduate students and researchers. He represented the TUBITAK and the Turkish Government in a number of international organizations and meetings. He was on the Committee of Senior Officials of COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) for seven years and a member of the Executive Board (2009- 2011). He is a member of Higher Education Quality Council His foreign language is C2 level in English in addition to drafting and presentation skills.
